Shell African & Caribbean Network

For the Shell African & Caribbean Network program a new graphic language was developed. Instead of using traditional imagery it was decided to use colourful beads to form patterns and graphics.

I was tasked with creating a solution where it was possible to generate a pattern of seamingly random beads which would be formed by input from a simple image. A complex network was built which would pick a random type of bead, give it a base colour based on it’s position on the underlying image and then add up to 2 layers of random additional variations to that base colour. The rendered images had to be suitable for large format printing as well as screen usage.
